PREP FOOTBALL: Trojans air it out, improve to 2-0
BOISE — On a good night, it could be any one of the Post Falls wide receivers that could have a big day.
Friday was senior Alex Shields’ night.
Shields had three touchdown receptions, all in the first half for the Trojans in a 48-22 win over the Timberline Wolves at Dona Larsen Park.
“We’re really high on Shields,” Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said. “He’s a great talent and does a great job with his size and getting the ball in the end zone. (Quarterback) Isaac (McKeown) does a great job of getting him the ball on time. They’ve really developed a nice relationship and do a good job when they’re on the field together.”
Asher Bowie had a 57-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter, McKeown’s fourth TD pass of the game.
“We’re trying to get the ball out quick and Isaac does a great job of distributing the ball,” Bennett said. “He really took a step forward and played better than last week (a 41-21 win at Sandpoint). Isaac did a good job of getting the ball to some guys that can make some plays.”
Senior Cooper Craig had an interception, setting up a touchdown run by Tevin Burns in the first quarter as the Trojans (2-0) built a 33-9 halftime lead.
“Cooper did a great job being in the right position,” Bennett said. “Defensively, we did a great job of holding them to nine points. Our defensive staff did a great job with the game plan and the kids executed it very well.”
Post Falls travels to Sunnyside, Wash., next Friday.
Timberline is 0-3.
“Anytime you can get down here and get a win, it’s a good thing,” Bennett said. “To compete against a team like this and play solid, it says a lot about the maturity of our kids.”
