Cd'A Library to hold free writers workshops

| September 1, 2023 1:00 AM

The Coeur d’Alene Public Library will host a free workshop series for local authors to pursue their Writer’s Mythic Quest.

Classes will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 2, Sept. 9, Sept. 23 and Oct. 7 in the community room at the Cd’A Library, 702 E. Front Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

For anyone unable to attend in person, an online lesson will also be available via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16, Sept. 30, Oct. 14 and Oct. 21.

The workshops are an all-ages opportunity to become a better writer.

“Understanding mythology deepens narrative storytelling,” instructor Kim Morgan said in the course description on her website. “Your personal myth quest can lead to unexpected stories found in unconventional ways. Your takeaway is a plethora of "Re-Visioning" strategies for personal writing and any literary genre.”

The lecture topics will include "Re-Vision Your Narrative Into a Compelling Memoir," "Archetypal Motifs: Demystify the Myth of Writer's Block," "Narrative Structures All Storytellers Should Know" and Carl Jung's "The Red Book and Understanding Active Imagination."

“This program is designed for creative people, not only for genre writers. You'll explore the power of your personal mythos with a daily practice and long-term project,” Morgan continued. “We use self-awareness activities and exercises, mindfulness practice and expressive writing. Whatever your interest, you'll discover the heart of your story and learn from your mythic path.”

The course will provide lessons in archetypal threads and patterns, inner landscapes and sacred places, the power to restore and re-story meaning and purpose in life, new perspectives and creative potential.
