STATE VOLLEYBALL: Wallace assured of trophy in 1A Division I

1A DIVISION I

LEWISTON — The Wallace Miners will bring home a trophy from the 1A Division 1 volleyball tournament.

The fifth-seeded Miners went 2-1 on Friday at Lewis-Clark State College, beating No. 4 Genesee 25-19, 22-25, 27-25, 25-17, losing to No. 1 Troy 25-14, 25-10, 25-8, then eliminating No. 6 Greenleaf Friends Academy 25-21, 25-20, 26-24.

By being one of the final four teams remaining in the division, Wallace (25-4) is guaranteed a trophy.

The Miners, the District 1 champions as well as a play-in match winner, face No. 3 Murtaugh (18-3) at 9 a.m., with the loser finishing fourth. The winner advances to play the loser of the semifinal match between No. 1 Troy and No. 2 Grace.

Kellogg goes

two-and-out

RATHDRUM — The Wildcats, who won the District 1-2 title, went 0-2 on the first day of the state 2A tournament at Lakeland High’s Hawk Court.

Kellogg, the No. 2 seed, fell to No. 7 Firth 25-21, 25-20, 25-21, then lost to No. 6 Bear Lake 25-23, 25-14, 25-17.

The Wildcats, seeking their first trophy in their eighth trip to state, finished 12-6.

Badgers win once,

Then bow out

COEUR d’ALENE – Bonners Ferry went 1-2 on the first day and finished tied for fifth at the state 3A tournament at Coeur d’Alene High’s Viking Court. 

The seventh-seeded Badgers lost to No. 2 Snake River 25-14, 25-21, 25-19, beat No. 6 South Fremont 30-28, 16-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11, then were eliminated by No. 1 McCall-Donnelly 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 25-15.

Bonners, which beat Timberlake to win the two-team District 1 title, finished 11-12.
