| October 28, 2023 1:00 AM

Mona K. Jacobson, 87, our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandma and our “Svenska Flicka” went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Oct. 5, 2023. She passed away under the exceptional care of Hospice of Spokane and her devoted husband, Ron with loving support from her daughter, Lisa, and husband Dan.

She leaves behind her husband, Ronald of Spokane Valley, Wash.; son Ronald Jr. and Maria of Hayden Lake, Idaho; son Scott and Cherie of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; daughter Lisa Kuetemeyer and Dan of Rathdrum, Idaho; son Todd (preceded her in death) and Stacy of Woodinville, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; (grandson Brandon Gallegos and great-grandson Wallace George preceded her in death); brother Ken Carlson and Bernita of Hauser Lake, Idaho; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mona was born to Gust and Hazel Carlson on Sept. 7, 1936, in Coeur d'Alene. She graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1954. She continued her education at Pacific Lutheran University and graduated with a music degree. She had a beautiful soprano voice and played the piano, organ and accordion exceptionally. She met the love of her life, Ronald, and they were married Aug. 1, 1959, and blessed with four children. Mona's first teaching job was at Pines Middle School in the Spokane Valley. She also taught at Bryan Elementary in Coeur d'Alene. She then decided to stay home and raise her family. At the age of 40, she returned to college and earned a minor in business, which led her to become the Assistant Registrar at North Idaho College.

In her later years, Mona enjoyed connecting with dear friends and family on Facebook, sharing about her life, family, and faith in God. Streaming her favorite pastors and praise music brought her much joy, as did cheering on the Zags and Mariners. She delighted in God's Word, His creation, especially the birds and her flower gardens and living on the Spokane River. Mona enjoyed conversing with her loved ones. Yvonne Dietz was her closest, lifelong friend, and Jack Forrest was a special cousin from childhood. She rejoiced greatly in the precious gift of every grand and great-grandchild and loved celebrating and making birthdays and holidays special. She and Ron shared 64 blessed years of marriage together, leaving a rich legacy of love, commitment and strong faith in Christ for their family. Mona was a remarkable wife and loving, wise mother, full of steadfast faith, strength and conviction. She always encouraged, supported, and prayed for us all. She will be forever loved and missed deeply in our hearts!

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lake City Center in Cd'A on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 1-4 p.m. She and Ron will be buried together at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Medical Lake, Wash.

We appreciate any gifts given in her memory to please go to Union Gospel Mission or Hospice of Spokane. Thank you!
