ELECTION: Vote for Gibbons, Griffin, Schroeder or Cassidy

| October 27, 2023 1:00 AM

Many Shoshone News-Press readers will remember my wife and I as longtime residents of Kellogg and the Silver Valley. Five years ago, we chose to move from Kellogg to Coeur d’Alene due to health care concerns and other personal considerations, but we still consider ourselves connected deeply to the people of the Silver Valley and the Kellogg School District.

After carefully studying the positions taken by the Kellogg School Board of Trustees candidates, listening to their online podcast interviews, and reading their responses to the News-Press candidate survey, we find ourselves greatly concerned about the direction that three candidates want to take the district if elected on Nov. 7. So concerned, in fact, that we decided to share our thoughts with the voters who will be deciding the outcome of the trustee’s races.

In our view, the three candidates in question clearly have not familiarized themselves with the school district policies relating to the functions, duties and responsibilities of trustees and are advocating changes to programs that are impractical or are simply allowed by law.

Therefore, we are advocating that those of you who can vote in the Board of Trustees election cast your votes for the following candidates, who through their survey answers and their public position statements, seem best prepared to be trustees for the Kellogg Joint School District. They are Sam Gibbons, running in Zone 3; Alexa Griffin running in Zone 4; and either John Schroeder or Felicia Cassidy running in Zone 5.

These candidates will be non-partisan and will not be directed by any special interest or political party and are worthy of your vote.
