NIC board will meet Wednesday

| October 21, 2023 1:05 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College trustees are expected to take action on a personnel investigation when they meet Wednesday.

The board is scheduled to meet in an executive session at 5 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Driftwood Bay Room of the Edminster Student Union Building on NIC’s main campus. The public session is set to begin at 6 p.m. in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room upstairs.

The meeting agenda indicates the closed session will involve a “discussion/decision regarding litigation with insurance panel counsel.”

While Idaho law allows for closed meetings of a public body under certain circumstances, including communicating with legal counsel about pending or likely litigation, any decision must be made in public.

Other items on the agenda include a “discussion/decision” about scheduling the college president’s evaluation and a “discussion/decision” regarding an investigative report.

The board and legal counsel for NIC have reportedly been aware since March of a potential lawsuit from a former college employee, who has not been publicly named. The employee’s allegations have been under investigation by a third party and are not known publicly.

Public comment will be accepted from those who attend the meeting in person and may end at any time after 30 minutes. Comments are limited to two minutes per person and must address a topic on the agenda.
