PREP VOLLEYBALL: Genesis Prep advances to district title match

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Madi Cooper had seven kills, eight digs and two aces for second seeded Genesis Prep Jaguars in a 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 win over the third-seeded Lakeside Knights in a semifinal game in the 1A Division I District 1 tournament on Tuesday at North Idaho College.

Senior Jillian Russworm had five kills, five digs, three aces and two blocks, junior Kennedy Prendergast five aces, 16 assists and five digs, senior Sophie Martin six digs, senior Shayla Hill five kills and five digs, junior Laya Daniels five kills, two blocks, four digs and four aces and junior Ella Martin five digs for Genesis Prep.

“We played well tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “We were nervous, but came out strong. Our serving was not the best tonight, but this was a real team win. I’m proud of the girls.”

Junior Pearl Covey had 10 digs and three assists for the Jaguars, who face top-seeded Wallace on Thursday in the championship match, with that winner advancing to a state play-in match on Saturday at Grangeville High at 2 p.m.

Lakeside finished 4-8.

SANDPOINT — Senior Vivian Platte had 16 kills for the Bulldogs in a 15-25, 25-10, 25-16, 25-20 win over the Bears in a loser-out match in the 4A Region 1 tournament at Les Rogers Court.

Junior Audrey Petruso had 22 digs and senior Haley Swaim 41 assists and four aces for Sandpoint (5-10), which advanced to the regional championship game on Thursday at Lakeland (21-7).

Moscow finished 4-12.
