When back pain starts to affect your daily living and quality of life it’s time to look at all your options. When your symptoms are caused by a herniated disc or nerve some type of nerve impingement in and around your spine, you may experience debilitating pain and even feel burning sensations, tingling, and numbness. You may want to talk to your doctor or chiropractor about non-surgical and surgical lumbar decompression options.

Often times, people try the standard route, pain medications, physical therapy, and injections before considering lumbar decompression as an option. There are two types of spinal decompression, surgical and non-surgical. If you are looking for a non-invasive, natural treatment to help with your debilitating back pain then you may want to consider non-surgical cervical or lumbar decompression. If your back pain has not responded to other, more conservative approaches to back pain treatments then surgery may be your next option. When there is too much pressure on the spine and nearby nerves, it can cause the type of back pain you are experiencing. This type of decompression uses both non-surgical and surgical ways to relieve that pressure off your spine.

If you notice increase back pain and don’t know where to turn, you may qualify for lumbar decompression to help reduce the pain. For example, if you have sciatica then the sciatic nerve is more than likely compressed and until that goes away you may not experience relief. When the nerves and tissues in and around the spine are under stress, they can send pain signals throughout the body can affect your daily living. Lumbar decompression is a way to relieve that pressure so your spine and affected nerves can function optimally again.

Non-surgical decompression is a more conservative approach to your back pain that is natural and doesn’t require any surgery, injections or medications. When non-surgical decompression is performed by a computerized table. These tables are designed to reduce herniated or bulging disc, thus taking pressure off the affected nerve. When you create negative pressure within the disc, this also allows water and nutrients to be forced into the disc, while reducing the bulge.

Medical studies have shown the effectiveness of non-surgical spinal decompression. In 2010, researches performed CT scans on patients before and after the treatment and found that not only did they have a dramatic improvement in symptoms, but it showed a significant improvement in vertebral disc height after treatment.

A 1998 study showed that non-surgical spinal decompression patients had a 90% reduction in disc herniation on post MRI scans. And, a 2008 Stanford University study found that non-surgical decompression resulted in an 83% reduction in back pain.

The other type of decompression is surgical. This is performed by a neurosurgeon who is highly knowledgeable and skilled in treating spinal issues. When back pain prevents you from walking or affects your general mobility, surgical lumbar decompression can help.

At Natural Spine Solutions, we encourage patients to try non-spinal decompression therapy as part of their pre-surgery treatment. Even those who have not achieved optimal recovery results through traditional physical therapy or chiropractic care can experience significant pain reduction and mobility improvement with spinal decompression.

Traditionally, back surgery was the only option for correcting severe spinal pain conditions. Despite its conservative nature, extensive research on non-surgical decompression proves it to be highly effective in correcting many pain-inducing conditions and eliminating the need for surgery.
