3A DISTRICT 1-2 SOCCER: Charter girls take eighth straight district title

POST FALLS — Senior forward Alexa Sheppard scored two goals for Coeur d’Alene Charter, which won its eighth straight 3A District 1-2 championship, beating Bonners Ferry 3-0 at The Fields at Real Life Ministries on Wednesday.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (15-1) advances to the state 3A tournament starting next Thursday at Vallivue High in Caldwell.

“We knew that after Bonners beat Timberlake, it would be a very fast paced game and we’d need to find creative ways to break their backline,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “I was very pleased with how we were able to play through a few tough moments and change up our attack toward the end of the first half, which allowed us to slip in a second goal before have and get some confidence. Hats off to Bonners for playing tough and fast the entire game. This was a great team for us to play — because of their speed, toughness and mentality — just before state. I’m very proud of everyone tonight.”

Bonners Ferry (9-7) moves to a state play-in match on Saturday at Walker Field in Lewiston against the loser of tonight’s District 3 championship game between Fruitland and Homedale.

POST FALLS — The top-seeded Badgers (14-3-1) defeated the second-seeded Panthers (11-5-3) in the 3A District 1-2 championship match at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

Both teams clinched berths to the state tournament starting next Thursday at Vallivue High in Caldwell.
