ECONOMY: It’s booming

| October 11, 2023 1:00 AM

I just finished a car trip to north Texas this week and all I can say is the economy is booming. Everywhere I drove through, all available workers are working. From Idaho to Texas, bridges and highways are being rebuilt and construction on business and residential buildings are incredible.

I’ve made this trip many times over two decades and I cannot believe the frenzied pace of construction. Anyone that wants to work gets hired. If you have a tool belt and hammer they want you. If you have skills (welder, electrician, equipment operator) the pay is incredible. At the hotel in north Texas where I spent a night ($200 a night) it was full of oil and gas workers paid by their company to stay there (I got the only room because it was ADA). Every RV park in the area is packed. The crew bosses I talked with only complained about not having enough people. I’m not sure why our legislators are complaining about Bidenomics but what I saw was the bipartisan infrastructure bill working for the USA.

I can’t hire anyone to help me on my hobby farm for $20 an hour probably because I expect hard work. I’m not sure what else our politicians can do to make the economy better. I still read the complaints about the interest rates but I must remind everyone that when I bought my first house in 1987 my mortgage interest rate was 13.5 percent. And that was when my favorite president was in office.
