PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene wraps up top seed to 5A volleyball regionals; Lakeland clinches top seed in 4A

LEWISTON — The Coeur d’Alene Vikings won the last two sets to escape with a 25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12 victory over the Lewiston Bengals in Inland Empire League play Thursday night, clinching the No. 1 seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament beginning Oct. 14.

Junior Paisley Goings had 14 kills, 12 digs, three aces and a block for Coeur d’Alene (19-5, 8-1 IEL). Lizzy Hardy had 18 assists, 12 digs and two aces for the Vikings, Bailey Jaworski 20 assists and 10 digs, Gracie Legg 20 digs, Kaydence Green nine kills, Gia Janke seven kills, Alexa Stavros two aces, Gianna Callari one block.

“It was a hard-fought match,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We struggled to get our rhythm, but the girls worked hard and pulled out the win.”

Lewiston is 4-8, 1-7.

Coeur d’Alene is idle until hosting a first-round match at regionals.

POST FALLS — Kylie Munday, one of five seniors honored on senior night, had 25 assists, 12 digs, two aces and a block as the Trojans bounced back from their first league loss to sweep the Timberwolves 25-18, 25-18, 25-12 in IEL play.

Junior Vanessa Kison added 10 kills, nine digs and two aces for Post Falls (26-5, 7-1 IEL). Trinity Byrne had seven kills, Maddie Brazee three aces, Jenna Sarff two aces, Sam Anderson one block.

“We had a great celebration of our five seniors — Jenna Sarff, Maddie Brazee, Maleah Wilhelm, Kylie Munday and Sam Anderson,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “All of our seniors played well.”

For Lake City (10-9, 2-7), Ava Johnson had five kills, Northstar Lawrence four kills, Daphne Neeley 10 digs, Camryn Woodman two blocks.

Post Falls travels to Lewiston on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

Lake City is idle until the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament Oct. 14.

Moscow

RATHDRUM — The host Hawks celebrated senior night by sweeping the Bears 25-10, 25-13, 25-19 in IEL play at Hawk Court, clinching the top seed to the 4A Region 1 tournament for Lakeland.

Ella Terzulli, one of two Hawk seniors honored, totaled 36 assists and three aces for Lakeland (20-7, 5-2 IEL). Senior Lila Kiefer added 12 kills.

Ziya Munyer had 15 kills and eight blocks, Landree Simon 12 kills, 14 digs and three blocks, Addy Hocking 14 digs.

“From the first serve, it was clear that our team meant business,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “The players exhibited impeccable teamwork, with powerful kills that left the Moscow squad struggling to keep up. The team's serving game was on point, with a series of aces that kept Moscow on the defensive. The precision and power of the serves were unmatched. Ella and Lila had a great senior night and it was fun celebrating them with a great win. The student section erupted with cheers as each point was scored, and the energy in the gym was electric.”

Moscow is 4-11, 2-6.

Lakeland travels to Sandpoint next Tuesday, then plays host to the Moscow-Sandpoint winner in the regional championship match Oct. 19.

Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Maci Sandbank had 18 kills and 13 digs, Jesi Kitchin 13 digs and seven kills for the Tigers in a 25-23, 20-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-6 loss to the Badgers in an Intermountain League match.

Isabelle Torr had 17 digs and three aces, Diana Nelson four kills and two blocks, Jozee MacArthur seven digs and 31 assists, Linley Howard six kills and four blocks and Amarijana Olivieri seven digs, six kills and two aces for Timberlake (3-11, 0-1 IML), which hosts Riverside on Saturday.

Bonners Ferry (8-8, 1-0) hosts Timberlake next Thursday, with a chance to wrap up the top seed to the best-of-3 3A District 1 playoff vs. Timberlake in a couple of weeks.

DEARY — Senior Ava Stancil totaled eight kills, six aces and 13 digs as the visiting Lumberjacks defeated the Mustangs 25-15, 14-25, 25-12, 25-9 in nonleague play.

Lily Daniel had 24 assists for St. Maries (14-6). Naomi Mueller had six kills, Mia Asbury five kills, Tayla Janssen two blocks, Abbie Wilks six aces, Brenna Elliott eight digs.

St. Maries travels to Priest River on Monday.

CLARK FORK — The visiting Jaguars defeated the Wampus Cats 23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 in nonleague play.

WALLACE — Megan Hull had 13 kills for the Miners in a 25-15, 26-24, 25-15 nonleague win over the Tigers at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Tia Hendrick had eight kills, three aces and eight digs, Aubrey Birdsell four aces and 31 assists, Bethany Phillips two blocks and five kills and Britany Phillips 12 digs for Wallace (13-0), which competes in the Pea and Lentil Spikeoff on Saturday in Genesee.

Mullan (3-8) hosts Lakeside on Tuesday.
