Growing the STEM Teacher Trivia Night Thursday

| November 29, 2023 1:00 AM

Growing the STEM will host its annual Teacher Trivia Night Fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge.

Thirteen schools in the Coeur d’Alene School District will send teams of teachers to compete for bragging rights, the trivia title and the “Big Brain Trophy.”

All proceeds from the evening support Math is Cool programming and other free after-school STEM programs in Coeur d’Alene schools such as Mathletes, STEM Club, STEAM Club, Chess Club, STEAM Book Club and Engineering Club. Through its programs, Growing the STEM teaches STEM curriculum to kindergarten through eighth grade students. The organization also offers a volunteer opportunity for high school students to gain leadership experience by teaching their younger peers Growing the STEM programs.

“Growing the STEM has provided so many opportunities for me to grow as a leader and improve my STEM skills. By coaching Math is Cool, I can give back to my school community while having fun with younger students,” Izzie Le, a Growing the STEM student board member and coach, said in a press release. “Having past experience of competing in Math is Cool as a fifth grader at Ramsey Elementary, it was natural to go back as a coach. Growing the STEM has also given me the opportunity to create my own new club at Fernan Elementary this year: STEM Health Science.”

“Growing the STEM is grateful to its presenting Trivia Night sponsor Northwest Speciality Hospital,” said the release. “Additional primary sponsors include Swire Coca-Cola USA, Pita Pit USA, Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Idaho Central Credit Union and Meltzer Medical Group.”

The public is invited to join the trivia excitement, honor teachers and support additional STEM programming in Coeur d’Alene schools. Additional team tickets for Teacher Trivia Night can be purchased through EventBrite by searching Growing the STEM on eventbrite.com.

Growing the STEM is a registered 501(C)(3). All programs are free and supported exclusively through donations. Growing the STEM welcomes donations to fund teacher stipends and program supplies for local schools at growingthestem.org.
