Coeur du Christ Academy aims to expand

| November 23, 2023 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — Coeur du Christ Academy, a classical high school academy in the Catholic tradition, has announced a significant expansion proposal and capital campaign.

The academy announced Monday it is working with the city of Coeur d’Alene to expand its existing downtown Coeur d'Alene facility to accommodate up to 150 students.

Groundbreaking is planned for spring 2025. Coeur du Christ is now seeking donations and funding to cover the costs of the expansion. The proposed project would expand Lumen Hall, which is part of the existing structure, to increase space for hosting cultural speaking and performing arts events.

Founded in 2022, Coeur du Christ welcomed 30 students in its inaugural year and now serves 50 students. The proposed expansion would provide additional classrooms, a state-of-the-art science lab, administrative offices and improved facilities.

The expansion plans recognize the historical character of the building, especially the chapel, which was built in 1906 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The rest of the building served as a school in the early 20th century. The redesign is expected to preserve the character of the space as well as the historic character of the neighborhood.
