Montana Tech, with players from both Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene and Lake City High, defeated Carroll 23-17 in the regular season finale for both last Saturday in Helena, Mont., clinching an NAIA Playoff bid for the Orediggers on Saturday against Dickenson State. Derek Pearse, a redshirt sophomore tight end from Post Falls High, had one reception for six yards, blocking for an offense that ran for 179 yards in the win. Matt Whitcomb, a redshirt sophomore linebacker from Lake City, had five tackles, senior defensive tackle Gabe Zanetti (Coeur d'Alene) two tackles and redshirt freshman safety Zach Clark (Post Falls) had two tackles.

Central Washington basketball

Sims had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Wildcats in a 70-63 overtime win against Cal-State East Bay on Nov. 10 in Hayward, Calif. Sims followed that up with eight points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats in a 66-58 win over Stanislaus State on Saturday. Sims has appeared in all six games for Central Washington, starting three.Klaire Mitchell

Grand Canyon volleyball

Mitchell, a graduate student setter from Lake City High, was named the Western Athletic Conference Setter of the Year for the third time, and was named all-conference for the fourth time. Mitchell now has nine WAC awards, including being named Freshman of the Year in 2019. She was named conference Setter of the Week five times this season. Grand Canyon (20-7) opens the conference tournament today.

Symons, a 6-foot freshman forward from Coeur d'Alene High, is averaging 2.7 rebounds per game in 12 minutes for the Cowboys (2-1), who visit Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon.
