Davis, Shafer win Hayden elections

A handful of votes decided the races for Hayden’s mayor and one City Council seat.

At midnight and with all precincts reporting, Alan Davis won the race for Hayden mayor, capturing 50.5% of the vote or 1,820 votes total. His opponent, Luke Sommer, garnered 49.4% of the total. Just 37 votes separated the two.

In the race for Hayden City Council Seat #3, Tom Shafer won by a bigger margin. He received 52% of the total, or 1,869 votes, while opponent Roger D. Saterfiel received about 47% of the vote. In this race, 171 votes separated the two candidates.

The Hayden candidates could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
