Joseph Scott Guild, 76

| May 28, 2023 1:00 AM

With heartfelt sadness, Joseph Scott Guild passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus in his heavenly home May 21, 2023, at the age of 76 surrounded by family. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 12, 1946, the first of three children (Cathy and George) to Joseph and Amelia “Billie” Guild.

Joseph (or Scott as the family called him) grew up in Chicago and graduated from Barrington High School, where he was passionate about baseball (catcher) and considered pursuing a baseball career, however, he changed his path to enlisting in the U.S. Navy, San Diego and serving on the USS Hancock, an aircraft carrier, from 1964 to 1968, as a Petty Officer 2nd Class, Radioman-Communications, and at least two tours in Vietnam. While in the service, he met and married his first wife, Merideth. Upon discharge, they moved to Seattle to raise their three girls and embark upon a career in Firefighting at King County Fire District #2 in Burien, Wash., and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He had to retire in 1983 from firefighting due to injury but never lost his passion and love for the career.

On April 1, 1983, he met his new best friend, soulmate and future wife (of 39 years), Diana Capaul, while coaching her Women’s Softball Team. It wasn’t exactly love at first sight, but it was a love that will endure the ages. A blended loving and beautiful family was formed. He was a loving and proud father of his three daughters, Jennifer (Brent) Erben, Jeanette Guild-Mosko and Julie (CJ) Melius; niece Pauline Twyman; and Diana’s daughter, Jennifer Susedik. He also loved and was very proud of all of his grandchildren, Ashley, Taren, Brittany, Samantha and Skyler, Paige, Terry Joseph and Gracyn, Ethan and Abby, Kyle, Shawn, Colby and Dillon and all of his 12 great-grandchildren.

By his marriage to Diana, he was loved and welcomed into an extended family of four generations of firefighters, so he was never far away from his love for the career. He loved and was so very proud of all his Capaul family, especially his nephews who always enjoyed talking about firefighting and sharing stories.

He loved sports, especially UW Huskies and all his DAWG Tailgate friends. Of course, the Mariners were top on his list, being a baseball nut, and the Seahawks. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping at the River with family, and in his early years traveling. Scott was a great golfer and when we moved to Cd’A, he worked for many years on the Ground Maintenance Crews at Deer Park Golf Course and Avondale Golf Course. When he started tending to the gardens and flowers on the course, he became known as Bud Stud by many; he was so proud of his flowers and gardens. And most of all, he loved all of the attention of the ladies in the Ladies Club complimenting him on his work and having many gardening conversations with them. His beautiful blue eyes sparkled every time he spoke of them; he loved you all.

Joe, or Joe-Scott, as Diana liked to call him made so many lasting friendships during his lifetime, and he would want you all to know that he loved and cherished each and every one of you. He was blessed to have you all in his life.

May you rest in peace our dear, kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. We are all better for having had you in our lives and loved by you. Until we meet again, you are eternally in our hearts.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
