GREAT REUNION: ‘Possible through The Son’

| May 26, 2023 1:00 AM

Recently, I was honored to officiate the memorial of an infant child, which weighed under two pounds at birth. At the front of the facility, the family had stationed several tables covered with the evidence of the battle they had waged to save their little girl.

Walking forward to gaze upon the remnants of this battlefield was harshly sobering. The pictures displayed were a stark image of how truly fragile she was. With tubes protruding out of her body everywhere a tireless medical team was portrayed grappling to keep her alive. And the pictures of mom and dad holding her, so small, yet so large in their hearts, left me weeping. As I exited one of the tables, there was on display, the differing sizes of diapers she wore while living. Her first diapers fit snuggling on my thumb. With this all-out endeavor to save this little one, now would be a great place to segue into how defenseless abortion for convenience is, but that is for another day.

I didn’t sense that this group of mourners were extremely religious, but faith and hope was very evident. Mom and dad read prepared notes to those gathered with them and they both confirmed their belief; their precious was in heaven. Many others said the same. I believe my role was to affirm their hope, so I told them that the scriptures are clear, children who have not reached the age of accountability, die and are ushered directly into God’s arms.

What is this hope though, if there is no way for loved ones to see them again? I told them of God’s love. If he is willing to take the children to heaven, he must have a way for parents to join them. As accountable adults, God requires we repent and accept his Son Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sins. He died in our place. That great reunion is only possible through The Son. God only knows that day, those who affirmed His message.
