Charlie Till, 75

Charles Titus Till Jr. of Cape Coral, Fla., passed away unexpectedly Feb. 6, 2023. Charlie was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pa. The beloved husband, father and brother is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol, his daughter, Amber, who was the light of his life and of whose accomplishments he was so very proud, sister Jean Ahern/Keith Sr., sister-in-law Debby Till and brother-in-law Jim Weight/Babette. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gladys Till, and brother Robert Till.

While attending Navy schools in Maryland in 1966, he met his bride, Carol. They married in 1969. They lived in Nevada County, Calif., for 35 years, where he developed national trade show experience in marketing and sales while being involved in the design of alternate energy and solar systems in the residential market and earning a degree in graphic design. He and Carol then moved to Post Falls where they resided for 20 years and then moved to Florida in 2021. They survived Hurricane Ian in 2022, but Charlie developed some complications to his military disabilities which led to his passing.

Charlie’s passion in life was his family, friends, and helping veterans. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1971. FTM3 Till served on the most modern destroyers in the Navy during the Cold War. His ship, the USS Sampson, was among the first to render aid to the USS Liberty after a savage attack by Israeli air and surface units. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Fort Sherman Chapter 9 and American Legion Post 154. He was committed to representing and supporting veterans through outreach projects sponsored by the DAV and American Legion. The DAV annual Christmas project was near and dear to his heart, and he was dedicated to the fundraising efforts. When he was not doing outreach or fundraising, you could find him trapshooting at the Hauser Lake Gun Club or Cowboy shooting at Spirit Lake.

Charlie was funny and always had something uplifting to say, and he could be counted on for a hug if you needed one. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

His cremains will be interred at Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Road, Medical Lake, Wash., at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23.

A Memorial Service and luncheon will be held from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at American Legion Post 143, 1138 E. Poleline Ave., Post Falls, Idaho.
