STR HOTLINE: Too many STRs will ruin city

| May 12, 2023 1:00 AM

In regard to the “hotline” STR complaints, thank you City Council. To start with, understand the majority of residents aren’t against STRs, it is the sheer number per block we are against. I am a resident for 46 years, and have an owner-occupied STR. I have six within our block, and two within a stone’s throw behind us.

Melissa and Jeremy Radford, recently moved to our Coeur d’Alene community and own two STRs downtown. First thing they do: form the “CDA Vacation Rental Alliance” and threaten to sue the city if they put restrictions on ownership. Day 1 of the news of a hotline, they are already complaining and threatening lawsuits. Perhaps their goal is to “burn down” our city and overrun it with STRs, with no regard to our neighborhoods and our rights and move on. We can all agree it is good for tourism, jobs, impeccably kept rentals, but you can’t thrive as a neighborhood year-round with strangers coming and going every few days. Be part of the community, and do not use our beautiful city for your financial gain of STRs ruining the integrity of our neighborhoods.
