Shoshone County Elections and Polling places

| May 12, 2023 1:00 AM

WALLACE – Election Day is Tuesday and voters in specific areas of Shoshone County will be deciding on issues affecting them, while all voters can participate in the library network trustee election.

The city of Kellogg is asking for their residents to vote in favor of adopting ‘Ordinance 623,’ thus amending the existing Ordinance 574 – Changing the Local Option Non-Property Tax on short-term rentals (hotels, motels, and vacation rentals of less than 30-days) from 3.5% to 5.5%.

The amendment also includes adding city parks and public right-of-ways to the approved list of purposes that the generated funds can be spent on, as well as adding the penalty for unpaid Local Option Non-Property Taxes from 5% to 10%.

This initiative requires a super-majority in order to be passed – two-thirds plus 1 vote - in favor of the ordinance for it to pass.

Voters residing in the Clarkia Better Roads Highway Districts are being asked to vote for or against increasing their levy to the amount of $98,000 beginning in 2024 and continuing for a duration of two years.

The increased dollar amount would be used to combat rising costs of operations, construction and maintenance.

Voters in the East Shoshone County Water District are being asked to vote for two open board member positions.

Voters in the Cataldo Water District will be filling one open board member position.

All voters in Shoshone County will have the Community Library Network trustee election on their ballot. There are two trustee seats open in that race.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters in District 1 (Murray/Prichard) were sent absentee ballots for this election to do away with the need for a polling place.

Election Day voter registration will be available at local polling stations, with a photo ID and proof of residence.
