LAKELAND SCHOOL LEVIES: Vote yes

| May 7, 2023 1:00 AM

Lakeland shows up for its people. It shows up for its school events, its city events, its charity events. It even shows up when tragedy strikes. A funeral director once told us, “Lakeland shows up for its funerals.” It means Lakeland residents are not afraid of the hard stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, the sad stuff. It means that people rally for each other in good times and in bad.

Why is a community like this? How does this happen? Lots of reasons: cultural background, family values, area history, business and community leadership. And…our schools. One of the main reasons why our community shows up for its people is because our schools are strong; because strength is found in numbers and togetherness. We sit in the stands and at band concerts together; we celebrate, support, encourage and even mourn together. Our people rally because we take care of each other and because nobody is going to hurt our people.

These schools are our people. These kids, these parents, these teachers, these bus drivers, these businesses; they are our people. We have been given a gift to be able to depend on local tax dollars to take care of our own. Now, let us do just that. Let us continue to show up for our people and Vote Yes for the Lakeland levies on May 16.
