LIBRARY NETWORK ELECTION: Vote for Meyer and McCrea

| May 5, 2023 1:00 AM

I am the middle child of five — all voracious readers. I remember my mother taking me to the library to get my first library card, right after I learned to read. She did this with each of us, and it was always followed by a family celebration — a rite of passage and an opportunity to avail ourselves of all the knowledge, beauty, mystery and wonder of the world — right from our local library.

My parents reviewed carefully what we read. They believed it was solely their duty and responsibility to ensure what my siblings and I consumed included only age-appropriate content.

Furthermore, they trusted our community library board and our librarians to suggest books — classics, as well as new, wonderful books. We went to library story hours and a host of other library sponsored activities, too.

But today our libraries are being threatened by people who want to take away your power to choose what is right for you and your families. These people are attacking our libraries and crowing about the potential lawsuits they can attract in order to get attention for themselves and their political agendas.

Judy Meyer and Regina McCrea respect you and your right to read. They believe, as my parents did, that parents should choose what their children read, not library trustees and NOT the government.

I trust Judy Meyer and Regina McCrea to preserve my freedom to read. You should too.
