HOSPITAL TRUSTEE CANDIDATES: More info needed

| May 5, 2023 1:00 AM

In preparing to vote on May 16, I am trying to find out as much as I can about the candidates to make an informed decision on the upcoming election. There is not much out there. I do not know any of the candidates personally. I feel fairly well informed about the school levies and the library trustees due to reading the paper, but what about the hospital trustees, and is it even relevant now that a nonprofit model is being adopted.

I am very aware of that model as I spent 30 years working for Billings Clinic, a nonprofit hospital in Billings, Mont., and our Board of directors was NOT elected by the county, but were appointed, as the best to help the hospital grow and succeed. I was very frustrated to find that of the three candidates for the job of trustee, only one is a physician, and the other two are approved by the KCRCC. Not exactly what one would hope for.

Can the KCRCC do to the hospital what they have set out to do to public education (School district and NIC)? I hope not for the health of the people who live here. I would like to see something in the paper about the three candidates. What are their qualifications? Why are they running? Do any of them have a secret (KCRCC) agenda?
