POST FALLS — Records are made to be broken this time of year.

Post Falls senior Trevor Miller got that message.

In the boys shot put, Miller broke the District 1 All-Star Meet record with a throw of 57 feet, 1 ½ inches to edge Priest River senior Matyus McLain, who finished second with a throw of 55-1.

Both Miller and McLain are committed to play football at Idaho, both on the defensive line.

“It’s always friendly competition out there pushing each other,” Miller said. “We’ll both be playing the same position at Idaho as well, so hopefully we’ll continue to push each other and build a great relationship from there.”

Miller’s mark was nearly 5 feet more than his previous best of the season, at the Pasco Invitational on April 15 (52-8 ½).

“When someone throws close to your PR, it really juices up the competition,” Miller said. “It really brings out your best throws. Usually, when I come out here, it’s usually just me against me. I just do this for fun and compete as hard as I can.”

Miller is ranked first in the state in the shot put heading into the 5A Region 1 meet next Thursday at Coeur d’Alene High.

“With my workout and what I’m doing, I’m starting to peak at the right time,” Miller said. “I know I’m going to take care of things in the long run and be ready to win it all.”

Lakeland’s 4x100-meter girls and boys relays have been on a bit of a high as well of late, with the girls team of Reagan Wright, Chloe Charvier-Soleillet, Michaela Palaniuk and McKenzie Palaniuk eclipsing the school record in 50.32 seconds with a win on Thursday.

“I just love this group of kids,” Charvier-Solelliet said. “It’s a great group of kids and we’ve been working really hard.”

Wright starts the race, then hands off to Charvier-Solelliet before the Palaniuks finish the race.

“We’ve been running together since our freshmen year and have been working toward setting that record,” Wright said. “We’re just good friends and enjoy the hard practice to continue to get better.”

While they didn’t quite notch a school record on Thursday, Lakeland’s 4x100 boys also won in 42.88 seconds. The foursome set the school record at the Legends Invitational last Saturday in Walla Walla (42.77).

“We’ve been working really hard to get our handoffs really smooth,” senior Nick Nowell said. “I think that’s a huge part of it. We do some mock runs of the 4x100 to get ready for each meet at practice. When we’re in the race, it almost becomes second nature to us.”

Lakeland’s boys (Thomas Calder, Nick Nowell, Terry Edwards and Weston Saputski) hold the top 4A time in the state in the 4x100 currently.

“We’ve been building a lot of chemistry and working on our handoffs,” Saptuski said. “We’ve just got to continue to work on our handoffs and keep working to get better.”

Post Falls senior Annastasia Peters broke the meet record in the 1,600 (4:56.45), as well as the 3,200 (10:44.13). Her time in the 3,200 was 15 seconds faster than her previous finish in 2022. Trojan senior Capri Sims set the meet record in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 9 inches, breaking the previous mark set by Katie Poston of Bonners Ferry in 2006 (44-3 ½).

Lake City senior Trevor Cogley nabbed the meet record in the 400 (48.11), best the previous mark set by Alex Ayers of Lake City in 2017 (49.08).

“It was just an unbelievable race,” said Lake City coach Kelly Reed of Cogley’s 400, which also broke the school record set by Ayers (48.40) at state in 2017. “He talked about running the first 200 super aggressively and used his arms well in the back stretch and was fantastic. Credit to Trevor, he’s worked at it really hard and put a ton of time into it, and it’s showing. He’s wanted to break the school record all year, and knew it was in his sights. He just attacked it and made it happen.”

The Post Falls 4x400 team of Trenton McLean, Nolan Vaughan, Cobe Cameron and Dylan Wolfe also won in a record 3:26.11, breaking the previous mark held by Lake City in 2009 (3:29).

The meet featured the top 16 athletes in each race and field event, and top eight relays, based on times/marks.

As such, no team scores were kept.

In between events, former Lake City High coach Kent Eggleston, St. Maries High thrower Logan Feasline and Kootenai star Darcy Skjei (nee Collins) were inducted into the meet's hall of fame.
