Human Library to return May 20 to HREI
"Books" and "readers" participate in an October 2022 Human Library event at the Human Rights Education Institute. The next Human Library will be May 20 at HREI in Coeur d'Alene.

The Human Library will return to the Human Rights Education Institute from 1 to 4 p.m. May 20.
The program is designed to build positive frameworks for open conversations that challenge stereotypes and prejudices. It provides opportunities to open individuals’ minds and help them understand their potential misconceptions of others.
The Human Library is where real people are "on loan" to "readers," where difficult questions are expected and appreciated and where lifetime curiosities can be resolved. It gives opportunities to help community members make sense of a life story they may never have had the chance to explore. It also helps people understand uncertainties they may have developed over a lifetime of unanswered questions. It is an educational opportunity in which real people to tell unique stories and answer questions about journeys along the way.
Sponsored for four years by HREI, the Human Library has received powerful feedback from those who have participated. One "reader" commented they learned about "the struggle/pressure to conform to an unhealthy societal role and the courage it takes to liberate oneself, as well as the healing that comes from the journey."
This event will feature "books" representing: The Baha’i faith, gay law enforcement, diabetes, autism, trans women and others.
