RULE BY MINORITY: Damaging way of life

| March 19, 2023 1:00 AM

I don’t see why we have to have rule by minority in Idaho. The Coeur d’Alene school safety and maintenance levy actually got a majority of votes but just under the 55% the levy required to pass.

My neighbors and I supported the fire levy several times for Northern Lakes Fire District which was much needed and it failed because it required more than 51% of the vote. This is ridiculous.

In other areas, homeowners who bought their homes years ago and bought into a certain neighborhood and lifestyle are in danger of losing their lifestyle due to the proposed development that will be eating up more of our once beautiful prairie. Obviously, the few developers are more important than the hundreds of people living in that neighborhood.

This is not to mention the possible taking of NIC by three trustees who seem to be bent on destroying the college which is so much in the heart of this city. That three people can destroy a college loved by thousands is insane.

Not all of us old timers are happy with the direction any of the cities have taken in the last 10 years. Our beautiful prairie has disappeared, the once lovely city of Coeur d’Alene is now a city of high rises and the view of the lake nearly wiped out. Only Hayden seems to have a sense of trying to preserve something of the beautify and lifestyle of this area.
