RETIRING TEACHER: Trena Burt will be missed
I wish to offer praise for an incredible public school educator who is retiring this year.
Trena Burt, PE teacher extraordinaire at Ramsey Magnet School of Science, has dedicated 27 years to district 271 and will be turning the page on a new chapter in life as she bids farewell to a fulfilling and rewarding career.
With a focus on sportsmanship, teambuilding and games Trena makes physical activity fun for her students who range in age from kindergarten to fifth grade. Trena has always been goal-driven and helped build and manage the district’s Cross-Country program from a humble start to a program that includes nearly 1,100 children and all 11 elementary schools. Trena also initiated Ramsey’s partaking in the Jump Rope for Heart program, which has since become a student favorite.
Not only does Trena devote herself to her students, but she is a spin instructor, a volunteer ski patrolwoman and bike patrol volunteer during summer months.
Perhaps I am a little bit partial as she is in fact my mother, but her role will be hard shoes to fill indeed. Trena Burt is compassionately loved, and her spunky presence will be missed. She was my PE teacher and now she is my children’s PE teacher. What a legacy.
A proud daughter and student parent.
