Icebreaker heats up help for Double J Dog Ranch
HAUSER LAKE — Runners and walkers have a chance to help the Double J Dog Ranch continue its mission to provide and find homes for special-needs dogs.
The annual Icebreaker Run at Hauser Lake that benefits the dog ranch is set for April 2. While the 10K course will circle the scenic lake, the K is an out-and-back.
Last year, the event had more than 700 registrations of adults and kids on a cold and windy day.
Since opening the nonprofit dog sanctuary in 2009 on her 50 acres at Hauser Lake, Cristine Justus estimates she has provided a home and found homes for hundreds of dogs, most blind or visually impaired, that might otherwise have been euthanized.
The annual budget to operate Double J Dog Ranch is about $50,000. No one gets paid. Donations go to the dogs.
Same day registration begins at 8 a.m. inside the fire station. Races start at 10 a.m. at the Hauser Lake boat launch, followed by a medal ceremony and prize drawings.
There will also be food trucks, coffee truck, face painting, photo booth, gift baskets and many of the Double J dogs.
Registration is $33.
