CDA SCHOOL LEVIES: Vote yes

| March 8, 2023 1:00 AM

We are voting “Yes” for the Coeur d’Alene District No. 271 School Levy for the following reasons.

No. 1 — Back when the state of Idaho fully funded our schools, per the Idaho Constitution Article lX, Section 1, our three daughters had amazing teachers at Ramsey, Lakes Middle School and CHS, who contributed to them all being able to pursue their chosen careers. We can’t say enough about the dedication and talent of those many teachers over the years that helped our daughters become who they are. Although we are now retired, we are happy to help fund a similar education for the kids currently in our Coeur d’Alene schools.

No. 2 — This isn’t a “supplemental” levy, our district relies on these levies especially to cover the cost of hiring quality teachers and support staff. Idaho’s funding structure in recent years has been set up to require districts to levy local property taxes to fill the gap left in state revenues, which only partially cover salaries. For example, the state support of $24,800 for support staff equates to $11.90/hour! We must pay a respectable wage.

No. 3 — Without prioritizing our schools, we no longer will attract people to Coeur d’Alene with the skills we need — nurses, hospitality workers, dentists, contractors — all who have kids they care about and want the best for.

Join us in voting “Yes” on March 14.
