SCHOOL LEVIES: Vote yes

| March 3, 2023 1:00 AM

I have been a teacher and a resident/homeowner in Coeur d’Alene for 13 years. I have always enjoyed the support I have seen in our community for our local schools. When I first moved here in August 2010, the local voters approved the KTEC levy. I was thrilled to be living in an area that supported education, especially vocational education.

I am a Project SEARCH teacher with the Coeur d’Alene School District. Like KTEC, Project SEARCH prepares young adults for the workforce. Our program focuses on students who happen to have an array of disabilities. Through the nine-month training program hosted by Kootenai Health and partnered with Idaho Division for Vocational Rehabilitation, we have had more than 100 students from the three local school districts (Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Lakeland) successfully complete our program and most have gained employment in our local community. Our Project SEARCH graduates work at local restaurants, hospitals, assisted living facilities, auto dealers, manufacturing plants and other local businesses.

Project SEARCH and KTEC strive to prepare students for various employment opportunities in the service, health care and manufacturing sectors. These are jobs that need to be filled in our community as we continue to grow. We need the support of all voters for our local levy. Programs like Project SEARCH and KTEC will be on the chopping block without levy support. On March 14, please vote YES (twice) for Coeur d’Alene Schools! As well as YES for Post Falls and Lakeland Schools!
