COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department put a third advanced life support ambulance into service Wednesday.

The ambulance, Medic 34, will serve out of Station 4 at Atlas Road and Hanley Avenue.

This new resource will be staffed with one firefighter/paramedic and one firefighter/EMT Tuesday to Friday.

Fire Chief Thomas Greif said the ambulance is needed to keep up with service calls.

Last year, its two advanced life support ambulances responded to 9,000 EMS calls, with over 4,500 resulting in transports.

"We would like to thank our mayor and City Council for continuing to make public safety a priority within our community," Greif said.

He also thanked a partnership with Kootenai County EMS System since 2001.
