NIC: What are the motives of those sinking the ship?

| March 1, 2023 1:00 AM

A beautiful white ship has been sailing across splendid blue sears for many years. Recently, however, torpedoes have been fired at this magnificent ship. Perhaps the final torpedo is about to sink this ship into an abyss. This final torpedo has a payload of “lost accreditation.” Of course my analogy refers to North Idaho College.

Numerous letters and editorials have addressed this situation and the officers in charge of the submarine: Todd Banducci, Greg McKenzie and Mike Waggoner. My question, as a longtime educator dating back to the early 1960s, and still currently involved, is what are their motives?

I wonder if a competent psychologist, psychiatrist or counselor, following the devastating events of the last 18 months or so, could come to any conclusions. Could narcissism, ego, financial gain or political prestige be involved? Do these trustees really believe they are perpetuating quality education and have the future of North Idaho College at heart? We can only hope the last torpedo misses its target.
