YOUTH SOCCER: Thorns 07 girls win opener at DPL finals

U16 CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP
The 2007 Thorns North FC girls soccer team defeated the Valley Surf of Northern California 5-1 on Tuesday in its first game in the U16 Championship Group at the Developmental Premier League national finals at the Voice of America Athletic Complex in Cincinnati.
Marlee McCrum’s assist to Natalie Thompson got the Thorns on the board first, followed by a goal from Emerson Rakes, assisted by Paige Hunt. The Thorns took a 3-0 lead into halftime after Ava Glahe found Thompson again. Ella Bleffert added two unassisted goals in the second half.
Thorns North plays today at 6 a.m. PDT vs Florida United.
U19 SUPER GROUP
Delaney Moczan scored a second-half goal but the Thorns North FC 2004/05 girls fell 3-1 to the Charlotte Development Academy in the first group game of the Development Premier League national finals in Cincinnati. Brynn Johnson and McKenzie Goings anchored the Thorns defensively.
The Thorns play today at 8 a.m. PDT against the Monterey Surf (Cal South).
