Wednesday will kick off the nomination period for the 2023 edition of the "Best of the Silver Valley."

Much like previous editions, the vote-based competition begins with folks nominating their favorite Silver Valley businesses in a number of diverse and exciting categories. Once the nomination period ends, those results are tallied and the top five contenders for each category go up for a vote.

2023 has been a seminal year of change for the Shoshone News-Press, and the 2023 Best of the Silver Valley is part of that as well.

“The Silver Valley offers some of the most diverse communities in North Idaho,” SNP Local Editor Josh McDonald said. “In the past, we have had a few categories that didn’t make a ton of sense, but this year we really want to dive into the businesses and people of our beautiful valley. We know that the businesses are a reflection of those communities and we want to hear from our readers and followers to find out who they believe are the best of the best.”

Competition often breeds excellence, and it’s no secret that while many of the businesses in Shoshone County do a lot to help one another and their customers, they are also fiercely competitive — the "Best Of" competition gives businesses a fun opportunity to do just that in a way that is measurable and can drive up business.

The seven types of categories will be automotive, in the community, services, shopping, health/beauty/fitness, dining, and home/home service/finance.

Within these seven topics will be a number of different categories for businesses to be nominated. Businesses can be nominated for as many different categories as they qualify for.

Winners will be published in August, as well as given an opportunity to purchase marketing materials to display at their business for bragging rights throughout the year.

There are numerous ways to start nominating. For online readers, just click the link here. If you are reading this in print, please visit Shoshonenewspress.com and click on the "Best Of" tab at the top of the page or visit our Facebook page and click on our pinned post.

The final voting period kicks off July 21 and will run through Aug. 1.
