Bayview aims high with fireworks fund
BAYVIEW — The Bayview Chamber of Commerce doesn't need any more money for this year's Fourth of July fireworks display.
It took care of that last year when it raised around $18,000.
"We're good to go," said Norma Jean Knowles, chamber president. "It's going to be fantastic."
But as usual, the chamber's work isn't done. It is raising money now for next year's show, and it's aiming twice as high. Try $40,000.
Knowles said they want it to be bigger and better than ever, and costs have increased due to inflation.
"We upped the amount we're asking," she said.
The Bayview Daze parade and the fireworks display are scheduled for July 1. The events combine to draw thousands to the lakeside town.
Knowles said there is good reason why the fireworks fund goal was set so high.
"We're reaching for the moon," she said. "We're hoping it's going to grow every year."
For those who want to pitch in, businesses around town have donation containers, Uncle Sam's Bucket Brigade will be collecting contributions at the parade and donations can be mailed to the Bayview Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 121 Bayview, ID 83803.
The chamber has sold almost all of the tickets on a 50/50 drawing, with $1,000 to the winner and $1,000 to the fireworks fund.
"Anything that is donated is deeply appreciated," Knowles said.
