US YOUTH SOCCER FAR WEST PRESIDENTS CUP: Timbers boys teams advance to semifinals
18U BOYS
Caden Thompson scored on a first-half penalty kick, and Jacob Molina added another goal deep into the second half as the Timbers North FC 2005 boys team beat the Utah Soccer Alliance 2-0 on Sunday in their third and final game of group play at the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.
With the result the Timbers, who finished 2-1 in group play and second in their group, advanced to the semifinals today, where they will face the 7 Elite Academy South of Utah at 10 a.m. PDT. The winner advances to Tuesday’s championship game and also qualifies for the U.S. Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, scheduled for July 6-11 in Wichita, Kan.
14U BOYS
Mason Taylor and Jacob Shaporda scored goals as the Timbers North FC 09 boys beat the Colorado Rapids South 2-1 on Sunday in their third and final game of group play at the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.
With the result, the Timbers, who finished 2-1 in group play and second in their group, advanced to the semifinals today, where they will play the Saints Soccer Academy of Oregon at 10 a.m. PDT. The winner advances to Tuesday’s championship game and also qualifies for the U.S. Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, scheduled for July 6-11 in Wichita, Kan.
Taylor scored on an assist from Isaac Lowder. In the second half, Payson Shaw crossed in a ball that Shaporda sent past the keeper for a goal.
Grant Johnson had five saves for the Timbers.
14U GIRLS
The Thorns North FC 09 girls wrapped up tourney play with a scoreless tie vs. the Columbia Premier Timbers of Washington in their third and final game of group play at the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.
The Thorns finished 0-2-1 in group play, losing its first two group play matches by 1-0 scores.
