US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup: Timbers boys teams win on first day
18U BOYS
Zac Olson scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half and Timbers North FC 2005 boys hung on to win 1-0 vs. Sporting Futbol Club out of Southern California on Friday in Bracket A play on the first day of the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.
Benji Valov-Deming recorded the shutout in goal for the Timbers.
Up next for the Timbers is Players SC Elite out of Las Vegas today at 1 p.m. PDT. Players defeated the Utah Soccer Alliance Premier 4-0 on Friday.
14U BOYS
Mason Taylor and Luke Fritts scored two goals each as the Timbers North FC 09 boys beat Gallatin Elite Soccer Club of Montana 5-1 in Bracket B play on the first day of the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.
Ethan Luna also scored for the Timbers, and Taylor and Blake Wise had two assists each. Grant Johnson had five saves.
The Timbers take on Aggies FC Utah in game 2 of group play today at 1 p.m. PDT. The Aggies beat the Colorado Rapids South 09 boys 2-1 on Friday.
14U GIRLS
The Thorns North FC 09 girls allowed an early goal, regrouped and controlled play for most of the second half but were unable to find the equalizer, and lost 1-0 to Madison FC of Arizona in Bracket B play on the first day of the US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup at the Simplot Sports Complex in Boise.
The Thorns play Real Colorado RC today at 1 p.m. PDT as group play continues. Real Colorado beat the Columbia Premier Timbers of Washington 2-0 on Friday.
