BE LIKE BOISE: Make downtown Cd’A quiet and safe
Congratulations to Boise, Idaho. The City Council said “enough is enough” and made amendments to three Boise City Codes to calm downtown traffic, lower noise and deter certain dangerous driving behavior. The Council stated “dangerous driving behaviors coupled with loud noises and modified exhausts on vehicles have caused significant safety concerns and quality of life issues for those living, working and enjoying downtown.” The change addresses drivers who unnecessarily rev their engines creating noise that can be heard from 50 feet away. The violation applies to moving, stopped and parked vehicles. The new fine will be $356.50 starting April 23, 2023.
I applaud their leadership. and courage. Let’s stop kicking the can down the road. Now is the time for the Coeur d’Alene City Council, Police Department, City Manager and Mayor to do the right thing, and seriously address this ongoing problem. We want visitors to enjoy a meal at an outside dining restaurant without having to stop talking every few minutes because of noisy cars. We want downtown residents to enjoy their homes without constant noise. We do not want downtown visitors and residents to be in fear from those who disregard crosswalks.
Let’s do this.
