Marjorie Reich, 87

| June 10, 2023 1:00 AM

Marjorie Reich, born June 11, 1935, passed peacefully in her sleep Monday afternoon, Feb. 27, 2023, at Honeysuckle Senior Living. She was in good spirits and had a nice visit with her loving daughter, Mary Beth Dixon, less than an hour before her death, and her constant Lhaso Apso companion, Lexus, was by her side when she passed away.

Marge was a loving mother, grandmother and mother-in-law with a truly wicked sense of humor. Sometimes you just couldn’t tell if she was kidding or not, and she particularly loved to tease her beloved granddaughter, Danielle. One of her favorite sayings was “Bet me and lose!”

Marge loved gardening, but she’d be quick to tell you she couldn’t grow a house plant to save her soul. When she and her husband, Andy, lived in Port Hill some 20 years ago, she had more than 300 irises and 25 peonies adorning their property. Every morning in the summer you would find her in her garden watering her plants and pulling weeds. Many of those lovely irises and peonies are still thriving in the backyard of the home of her daughter and son-in-law, John Dixon, in Hayden.

Her other passion was baking. Her pie crusts were the flakiest and best you’d ever taste, especially with her lemon meringue and pecan pies that Andy loved so much. And then there were her special doughnuts, made with mashed potatoes of all things, that just melted in your mouth. She and Andy showed their love for family and friends by making wonderful multi-course meals.

She and Andy loved dancing. When they were young, they were in a square dancing club, which is where Marge got the idea of wearing matching outfits! They continued wearing color-coordinated outfits throughout their marriage whenever they went out.

Marge and Andy loved playing cards, and played every day. Friday nights were reserved for a rousing game of pinochle with Mary Beth and John at their dinner table, with the boys against the girls. Oh, those games were fun.

While living in Beaver Creek, Ore., in the 1980s, Marge and Andy owned and operated a bowling alley and restaurant in Oregon City. They were very social and loved special dinners for friends and patrons. Their love of bowling was instilled in their granddaughter, Danielle, who started a bowling league in San Francisco, where she lives.

While at Honeysuckle Senior Living, Marge charmed everyone she met. She made people laugh with her quick wit and playful banter. Our family will be forever grateful for the support and care she received at HSL.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Andy; her parents, Helen and Fred Maas of Laural, Mont.; and her sister, Mary Ann Gunn. Marge often told her granddaughter, Danielle, that she would always be with her, because she could carry a part of her in her pocket. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Dixon (John); granddaughter Danielle Dixon and brother David Maas (Merna). There is a special spot in our hearts where her memory will always live on.

Friends and family will honor Marge’s life at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Please visit Marge’s online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
