COEUR d’ALENE — What remains of the old Kootenai Humane Society shelter will be auctioned off Saturday.

Nearly 50 years worth of furniture, equipment, tools and even security cameras will be offered to the highest bidders starting at 10 a.m., with viewing from 8 to 10 at 11650 N. Ramsey Road.

"If you can carry it, disassemble it, or move it, it's for sale!" according to a flyer. "Everything must go."

“Some of it's new, some of it's older,” said Debbie Jeffrey, executive director of what is now known as Companions Animal Center after its move to a new home on Atlas Road. “We don’t need it any more with the new building.”

Items that could command big bucks include a 21-foot, 1993 Mariah boat and an older box car.

The boat could use a little work but is worth an estimated $6,000 and the box car could sell for more. It’s considered collectible. Jeffrey said they paid about $5,000 for it about 20 years ago so it's likely increased in value.

“There’s not many of them left,” Jeffrey said, noting that some people convert them into homes on vacant lots.

Other items that will be auctioned include a riding lawn mower, commercial dishwasher, snow blower, metal roofing, air conditioners, nearly new water heaters, ceiling fans and a horse trough.

Jeffrey said some items could prove to be a deal.

“It depends on what you need,” she said.

Demolition of the building and hauling away of debris is expected to take about two weeks and run about $50,000.

The building itself, already rundown, was recently used for training by law enforcement, so it has some holes in the walls and blown-out windows.

CAC moved into its new home at 10275 N. Atlas Road earlier this year. It has raised $6.1 million toward its goal of $8 million to pay for that capital campaign.
