NIC hoops teams to play

in Scenic West in 2023

North Idaho College and the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) agreed to to add NIC’s basketball teams as temporary members of the SWAC for the 2023-2024 NJCAA season.

The agreement allows NIC men’s and women’s basketball programs compete as a SWAC conference member. It also creates a more fair and equitable opportunity for postseason play.

For the past several years, all NIC Athletics programs have participated in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). On July 1, NIC and the NWAC agreed to allow NIC to transition to the NJCAA over the course of two seasons, with NIC basketball teams leading the transition this athletic year.

NIC fall and spring sports — men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, volleyball and softball — will continue to compete in the NWAC for the 2023-24 season and remain subject to all applicable NWAC compliance and eligibility standards.

In the second year of the transition, starting July 1, 2024, NIC’s remaining fall and spring sports will no longer compete in the NWAC and will join the NJCAA.

NIC has petitioned to become an official member of the SWAC for all athletic teams beginning in Fall 2024.

NIC basketball teams will hold its first conference home game against Snow on Jan. 10 and will match up against College of Southern Idaho at home Feb. 3.

A full schedule will be posted at nicathletics.com at a later date.
