Animal Center closer to finishing the journey
COEUR d'ALENE — Companions Animal Center is a couple grand closer to paying off its new home.
"Finish the Journey" fundraiser, held July 18 at Hagadone Gardens at Casco Bay, brought in about $221,000, said Vicky Nelson, CAC development director.
Ruff-ly 300 attended the event that included food, drink, music and time to tour the jaw-dropping, picture-perfect paradise across the lake.
CAC has about $6.3 million of its $8 million goal.
"This event put us one step closer to paying off that bank loan," Nelson said.
The project was initially estimated to cost $6.5 million but COVID drove up construction expenses on the 22,000-square-foot building.
The new facility is nearly complete, with just a few finishing touches remaining.
Nelson, said it couldn't have gone any better.
"The Hagadone Corporation, once again, created a one-of-a-kind evening, and their amazing staff pulled it all together," she said. "Words cannot express how fortunate all of us at Companions Animal Center feel to have such community support for our life-saving mission."
Nelson said she loved it that so many people were able to hear about CAC.
"Everyone should be proud of the work their donations are accomplishing," she said. "I know a lot of furry faces who are extremely grateful that they have a place to receive a second chance at life."
