Debra Long, 70

| July 25, 2023 1:00 AM

Debra Kay Long passed away July 17, 2023, at Life Care Center of Coeur d'Alene, with her loving husband by her side. Debra was a breast cancer survivor and lived with dementia and other health-related issues for several years before her passing.

Born Nov. 7, 1951, in Oak Hill, Fla., to the late Mack and Lillian (Ropar) Clinton, Debra worked for many years as a proposal editor for a major power engineering firm in Orlando, Fla., before moving with her husband to Coeur d'Alene, over 21 years ago. Shortly after relocating to Idaho, and for many years thereafter, Debra was a regular volunteer at the St. Thomas Catholic Church's Community Kitchen, helping serve meals to the working poor, the homeless and the elderly.

She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada and loved gardening and baking. Debra's baked goods were such a hit with family and friends that she started an online bakery business when she lived in Florida, selling pound cakes, cookies and biscotti.

Debra is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ted Long; sister Pamela Vandergrifft of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; nephews Adam and Colby Vandergrifft of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and niece Cathy Gaillard of Altamonte Springs, Fla. She is also survived by many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Debra is preceded in death by two brothers; Kirby and Kevin Clinton.

Remembrances may be made in donations to Hospice of North Idaho in Debra's name.

Arrangements are provided by Coeur d'Alene Crematory & Funeral.
