LITTLE LEAGUE: Coeur d'Alene 12U wins state playoff opener

LITTLE LEAGUE (12U)

After giving up all of a six-run lead, Coeur d’Alene battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat North Boise 8-6 in Game 1 of a best-of-3 series for the state championship Friday at Hillside Park in Boise.

Bryce Petrella reached on a fielder’s choice, and scored the go-ahead run following a hit by Cooper Fordham for Coeur d’Alene. Fordham then scored on a single by Clay Larwin.

Coeur d’Alene led 6-0 before North Boise tied it with six runs in the top of the fifth, helped by three doubles and two singles.

Caleb Brumbach hit an RBI single in the second inning for Coeur d’Alene, and Petrella added an RBI single in the third.

Trent Liliquist went 3 for 3 for Coeur d’Alene. Brumbach and Jack Kreis each drove in two runs, and Fordham finished with two hits.

Game 2 is today at noon PDT, with Coeur d’Alene needing one win to advance to the Northwest Regional in San Bernardino, Calif.

Post Falls was held to one hit in a 10-0 loss to West Valley in Game 1 of their best-of-3 series for the state title Friday at Hillside Park in Boise.

Liam Rettmann had the lone hit for Post Falls.

Game 2 is today at 9 a.m. PDT.

SENIOR LITTLE LEAGUE

Post Falls was held to two hits and committed six errors in a 14-1 loss to Oakland in five innings in its first game on Friday at the West Regional in Oakland, Calif.

Timmy Howard and Isaiah Kearney singled in the bottom of the first inning for Post Falls, and Howard scored on a double play to cut Oakland’s lead to 4-1.

Post Falls plays Sunday at 10 a.m., against a team to be determined.
