SOFTBALL

The Lake City Thunder finished third at the recent state 18U tournament in Caldwell, after second-place finishes each of the last two years.

In the opener, the Thunder beat Crossfire-Brooks 5-3. Kristine Schmidt struck out seven, walked none and gave up six hits for the Thunder. Layla Gugino drove in two runs.

The Thunder then beat Crossfire-Burke 13-5. Delaney Gosch had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in five runs in the win. Gugino also had three hits. Taci Watkins struck out seven and walked two in 3.1 innings.

The Thunder then were held to three hits and lost 9-0 to the Crossfire-Dryer.

In the semifinal, the Thunder led by five runs before falling to Crossfire-Brooks 10-5. Crossfire scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Matea Dorame drove in two runs and Katie Berg had two hits for the Thunder.
