TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT: Spend to synchronize lights, not on center
I am curious about the time and funds being spent on the creation of a regional traffic management center. Why can’t you (Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization) focus our resources on the implementation of synchronized traffic lights on our major roads (U.S. 95, Government Way, Ramsey)? There are firms that specialize in this product. Maybe reach out to other counties in the country who utilize this favorable management tool.
Not only does the system keep folks from being so frustrated that they run red lights, it keeps the speed limit where it can be controlled because in order to flow through the green lights one must keep the constant recommended speed. If you can effectively design a synchronized traffic flow you will not have the need for video cameras. I bet every driver in this county would even donate to the cost. If synchronization is something that you are unable to accomplish then will you please arrange with the Coeur d’Alene Press, a published article that explicitly explains why this plan is improbable. We would like to know.
