SOLID LEADERSHIP: Versus conspiracy theorists

KMPO’s board and leadership should be applauded for their efforts to aid in improving traffic flow in our county. For the past several years KMPO, alongside ITD, have led community discussions seeking to improve our traffic congestion problems. Congestion reduces public safety and causes significant negative economic consequences related to increased freight costs and human capital inefficiency.

Hundreds of urban areas for decades have found Regional Traffic Management Centers to be a valuable tool in improving congestion issues. Currently, KMPO is undergoing a study exploring the possible implementation of such a center that could help our current and future issues. Rather than acknowledge the responsible thoughtfulness of KMPO in fulfilling its purpose of planning for the future, a handful of vocal right wing conspiracy theorists are misleading the public with their ridiculous notion of a government-sponsored “spy hub” designed to control our every actions. Far too much fear mongering rhetoric is being propagated by a few with no evidence of a factual basis.

I encourage all to do some easy research and visit the KMPO website, or Spokane’s Regional Traffic Management Center’s website to learn the actual purpose and usefulness of such centers. For those truly concerned about being monitored or spied upon, I suggest you throw away your smart phones and stay off social media, the FBI just might be watching, or maybe the Chinese.
