As part of an annual campaign to promote policing partnerships, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is inviting community members to National Night Out.

People will be able to meet and connect with police in their neighborhood across Kootenai County Aug. 1.

KCSO, in partnership with other local service entities, hosts this year’s National Night Out from 4 to 8 p.m. at McIntire Family Park, 8930 N. Government Way, Hayden. The festivities include a K-9 demo and a landing of the ABLE 1 helicopter for people to see and experience.

The Rathdrum Police Department will host a free community barbecue from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 1 at Majestic Park, 5400 W. Majestic Ave. Police and first responders will provide community resources, games for children and food while supplies last.

The events are free to the public. Food and drinks will be available with vendors and community resources on site.

First responders participate to encourage crime prevention and awareness in Kootenai County.

“The National Night Out is a coordinated effort to bring people and police together in a positive setting to promote partnerships and collaborations for safety,” said the National Night Out on its website. The coordinated effort has brought national unity home for nearly 40 years.

Millions of neighbors participate across thousands of communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.

Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more.
