Youth soccer: Thorns 07 girls to play in title game
U16 CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP
The Thorns North FC 2007 girls team secured a spot in the Developmental Premier League national championship game despite losing 3-1 to the Rhode Island Surf FC on Friday in their final pool play game at the Voice of America Athletic Complex in Cincinnati.
Natalie Thompson scored 40 seconds into the second half on an assist from Kennedy Hartzell.
The Thorns, who finished 1-1-1 in the four-team round robin, qualified for the final by finishing second in their group and will play Rhode Island again today at 8:30 a.m. PDT.
U19 SUPER GROUP
The Thorns North FC 04/05 girls Academy defeated Rush Elite out of Connecticut 5-2 to advance to the semifinals at the Development Premier League national finals in Cincinnati.
The Thorns attack was led by Georgia Whitehead (Washington State commit) and Delaney Moczan (Carroll College commit). Whitehead recorded a hat trick while Moczan delivered two crucial goals.
In addition to Whitehead and Moczan, Kenzie Goings, Berkeley Owens and Kim Yarnell also had outstanding performances.
The Thorns play SC Soccer of San Diego today at 10:30 a.m. PDT in hopes of a spot in the U19 final.
