Trustees will be able to lower the amount of taxpayer funds levied in the case of more support from the state if voters approve the Coeur d'Alene School District's upcoming supplemental levy.

The Coeur d'Alene School Board held a short work session Tuesday and voted 5-0 on a levy reduction resolution, which was first offered by Vice Chair Casey Morrisroe at the Jan. 9 board meeting. The resolution will let trustees consider reducing the amount of funds to be levied in the event the supplemental levy is passed by more than 50% of voters March 14 and the Idaho Legislature allocates budget surplus to the district that may be used for costs identified by levy dollars.

This means if the $25-million-in-perpetuity levy passes, and the Idaho Legislature allocates surplus funds for the district to use on an ongoing basis that can be used to fund items covered by the levy, the board will meet to consider lowering the amount to be levied in the coming fiscal year to offset that increase in state funding.
